Dark Isles is a free text-based role-playing game focusing on the development of intricate characters, and joining in with others in creating a continually evolving story based in an originally themed world. Unlike many other MUD styled games out there, Dark Isles is focused upon creative writing and telling a story. Here you will find no levels or classes, but tools to help provide focus and background for your character and the setting.

Setting
Dark Isles is set in a fantasy world with strong historical influences from 15C Britain.
Just over a decade ago, a cataclysmic event destroyed much of Aagos, leaving only a few pockets of life. Bastions against the onslaught of demons and the ever threatening darkness that has become a daily part of their lives. Seahaven is one such place, a busy port town located on the Southern edge of the island Heas. Homeland to the Aartirans (Humans), though nomadic Tir, tribal Skrel’eth and traditional Sayaki can also be found amongst their midst.
The arcane arts are complicated and multifarious; little is understood of them by the masses save their power. All magic manipulates kha: the spirit-essence that animates all living things and natural forces. There are three primary fields of magic, the most common of which is known as Channeling.
The peoples of Aagos worship many different divine beings, and in different ways. These entities are beings with vast power to create, maintain, and destroy, and have made themselves known quite vividly to the cultures of Aagos throughout history. In ages past, they walked among the land like mortals, guiding and teaching. In these dark days, however, the Gods are all but silent to the pains of their children, and many wonder why they do not simply strike down the Darkness which plagues the land.
The eight known gods are: Cymur, Balor, Morhiag, Ylessa, Sykala, Melchior, Elbahn and one simply known as ‘The Eighth’.
