Housing

Several housing options are available to characters wishing to reside in Seahaven and the surrounding area. Keep in mind, though, that the only class of people able to own a home are Nobles, commoners are restricted to renting and all the trials and tribulations that come with it. Rent is paid weekly (IC time) at the bank and a reminder is given when you log on when rent is due. As items are persistant on the ground (they save through a copyover and through a crash), houses provide a viable means to store all those items your character has been hoarding.

To rent a home, you will need to contact a member of staff.

Boarding Houses

An ideal option for new characters who cannot afford the cost of renting a home along with the initial outlay to furnish it. There are both player and staff (NPC) run boarding houses starting from 2s per week. They have basic furniture. To board, you will either need to contact a player running a boarding house, or a member of staff.

Renting Hovels

Whilst in some ways a step up from Boarding Houses, in that you are renting your own place, have more privacy and can furnish it as you wish, typically the quality of housing is … well, poor. It is a hovel after all. Hovels have no doors, they’re too flimsy to support them. They have no windows (it’d just get broken or stolen.. rough neighbourhood and all that). They have a dirt floor and at most, two rooms. They’re usually found in the slums.. who else would allow them? They are an eye-sore. Hovels start at 10f per week. They are unfurnished.

Renting Houses

For the commoners, this is the best that housing has to offer them and as such, there is a substantial increase in the cost of renting a house. A three room house in a middle-class area starts at 7s 5d per week. Houses can have doors, and usually have several. The front door lock and key is free (it comes with the house), but any additional locks come at a cost of 5s. Houses have wooden floors, and may also have windows if located in a middle class or higher district.

Owning Houses

This option is available ONLY to nobles. You can either purchase a house from another noble, or build a house from scratch. Both are expensive options and if this is something you are interested in doing, please contact a member of staff.

Furnishing:

This is a cost many players forget to factor into their rental (or purchase of a home). Houses don’t come furnished. Furnishing a home is expensive, however the cost can be reduced by buying second hand furniture, however this will result in furniture of lesser quality. Expect to pay at least one to five pounds to fully furnish a house (beds, drawers, desks, shelves, chairs,sofas, chests, wardrobes, stove, etc).

Currency Note:

L = silver pound, s = silver shillings, d =  gold pence, f = copper farthings.

Conversion rates:

1L = 20s = 200d = 1000f

1s = 10d = 50f

1d = 5f

Additional note:

See in game help files on housing and furniture for more information.
