Races
Aartiran
Build: A wide range, from short and stocky to tall and lean.
Hair: The range of golden blonde to black, typical to humans.
Eyes: The range of blues, greens, hazel and brown typical to humans.
Skin: Ivory to sun-bronzed
Racial attributes: The human races have very stable attributes with none being exceptionally high or low.
Racial idiosyncracies: None.
Overview
The Aartiran people are human, with all of the pros and cons that come along with being human, making them typically the easiest race for new players to acclimate with.
The Aartiran society within the city of Seahaven and its surrounding provinces has been subdivided into classes with royalty and nobility at the top and the working classes below.
Unlike other cultures of the time, women are near-equals with men and often hold many of the same jobs as men do. Though this relative equality is well accepted by most, women are expected to dress and behave in a discrete and feminine manner in social settings.
Sayaki
Build: Lithe, slender frames with a fair amount of condensed muscle, usually.
Hair: Light to dark browns, very rarely darker shades of red or black. Blonde is unheard of.
Eyes: Lighter greens and blues tend to be prevalent, but amber, hazel, and dark blues make up some of the less common colours.
Skin: Lighter, fairer shades to deep tans, depending on lifestyle. Freckles are rare.
Racial attributes: The human races have very stable attributes with none being exceptionally high or low.
Racial idiosyncracies: A rather Oriental flair to their appearance.
Overview
The Sayaki are a very traditional race of humans with an oriental flair and a proud demeanor who look at themselves as better than those of the other races around them.
The Sayaki are equally prejudiced within their culture, and it is displayed in every aspect of daily life. Children are given three names; their birth name, a patronym and a clan name, all of which are heavily relied on for establishing one’s place in society. Women are in no way the equals of men and except in rare circumstances among the elite families of warriors, women who choose to train in any form of combat are heavily looked down on. They are instead expected to excel as artisans, remain soft spoken at all times and be overly respectful of men, especially those of equal or higher social standing. Sayaki half-breeds are considered a disgrace and while some may tolerate a half-Aartiran child that looks Sayaki, mixing bloodlines with the Tir and Skrell is not only unheard of, but would be a huge social offense (were it to occur), resulting in the total loss of honor for the family who refused to be rid of it.
Beyond the distinguishing physical features, The Sayaki often dress in the fashions of their people, considering it degrading to take on the fashions of other races. The Sayaki are artistic and find great honor in perfecting an art, be it music, painting, or something more martial in nature.
Please note: THE SAYAKI ARE NOT JAPANESE! They are a race unique to Dark Isles with a slight Oriental flair. Bowing, using the terms -chan or -san, tea ceremonies, and other traditionally Japanese practices should not be done ICly among our Sayaki.
Skrel’eth
Lifespan: Child 1 – 5, Young Adult 6 – 9, Adult 10 – 49, Old age 50 – 60
Build: . Broad shouldered and stocky, both males and females are typically muscular and exceptionally tall.
Hair: Black and a variety of blues.
Eyes: The normal range of colors, though they lean towards blues.
Skin: Cyan to indigo.
Racial attributes: High strength, wisdom and constitution. Lower intelligence, dexterity, and perception.
Racial Idiosyncrasies: Deer-like ears and blue skin, hair, and eyes.
Overview:
The Skrel’eth people are a tribal race, divided up into small groups known as clans which typically live in cold, harsh climates.
Most Skrell wear their clan name rather than a patronym as is typical of the human races, and bear it with pride. To shame the clan, or the Legacy that comes with being part of the clan is practically unheard of among these people, they strive to live their entire lives with honor.
All Skrell are warriors and are raised that way from birth – even those who are granted mystical gifts by the Gods are trained to fight with weapons. They’re tough, coarse, people but they often have quite a light-hearted outlook on life, as long as they have the essentials: good drink, good food, and a good fight every now and then.
Tir
Build: Tall and lean with toned, rather than bulky, muscle.
Hair: Pale to golden blondes and light reds and browns.
Eyes: Greens and blues are most common, with hazel occurring occasionally.
Skin: Pale cream to soft tans.
Racial attributes: High agility, perception, and dexterity. Low strength, constitution, and psyche.
Racial Idiosyncrasies: Narrow, elongated, flexible ears that can be moved independently of each other, lifting and pivoting without the need to turn the head.
Overview:
The Tir are historically a race of gypsy-like nomads with throwbacks to the elves of ancient days.
They are typically light hearted and artistic, with a flare for bright colors and decoration of all sorts. Their loose social structures often result in the Tir interbreeding with other races, especially the Aartiran and Skrel’eth populations that they interact with frequently. Marriage is not something that matters to the average Tir, and most have no interest in clan or family names of any sort.
While some Tir still live in the carefree manner of old, various events throughout history (including the enslavement of large numbers of the population by the Tyen) have drawn them into the cities where they have adapted to the behaviors and expectations of the other residents.
Mixed Races
The races in Dark Isles are similar enough to be able to breed and produce viable offspring which are also able to reproduce. Over the years, this has resulted in many people of mixed breed, typically referred to as “half-breeds,” living in the major port cities of Seahaven and Perran. Though throughout history the Tyen race has been especially prejudiced to those of mixed blood, in Heas and Tarkas there is no stigma attached to being of mixed parentage.
Half breed races currently require an application to play.
Overview
Harch - Probably the most prevalent of the mixed races in Seahaven, the Harch are born of Human and Skrel’eth parents and are typically an equal blend of both races physical features, though the blue tones of the Skrel’eth hair, eyes, and skin are commonly seen.
Seari - Seari are relatively rare due to the low populations of Tir on Heas. They are born of Human and Tir parentage and typically feature a mixture of characteristics. The Tir ears are the most recognizable feature of a Seari, though they may be significantly smaller and may not maintain the full range of motion.
Eruki - Eruki are the most common of the half-breed populations on Tarkas, though they can be occasionally found on Heas as well. Eruki are born of Skrell and Tir parents, typically maintaining the features of a Tir with skin in a variety of blue hues.
